During our trip to Boston, my sister tells a family friend who's about to look at the site, "Be prepared to sit for awhile, she's long winded." Ha ha ha, very funny! I guess I am rather lengthy in my descriptions, but chronicling all of this is fun.
Well, the trip to Boston was VERY productive. We had a meeting with the folks at Occasions, where we're having the reception. We ordered the cake from Konditor Meister. Great Place! As my father said, it's set up like a European bistro, you sit at the small tables and try the different cakes and look through their books. Since I had a picture of what I already knew I wanted, they just went through and showed me pictures of what they do that's similar. We also talked to the photographer and Johnie and Daddy picked out the tuxes at Allen's. Still have to pick the vests. And the DJ and limos folks didn't seem to want to fit into our tight schedule, so my parents will have to check the cars later, and I'll talk with the DJ another time.
Oh yeah, and Tonia completely changed my Bridesmaids dresses. I must admit, her choice of color and style look good, but gone are my wisteria colored dresses and ladies in different styles. All the women will where the same style, yet Tonia's dress will be "sky" while the Bridesmaids will be in "lilac." That's fine. As long as I was able to work those colors in with my color scheme for the roses.
Speaking of roses. I contacted freshroses.com and looked at their website. They look like the best bet for what I want. I order one of their test packages. They send you twenty five stems, one each of the different colors and varieties of roses they sell. Each stem is labled with the rose's name so you can better make your order later.
I'll get the package on Friday. I can't wait to see them. |

I got my test package from 2G Roses Friday. And they looked great. They actually sent 26 roses, not 25 and all but five were colors that I would actually consider. They were shades of pink, purple, coral and cream. I've narrowed it down to about seven colors now, a pale, medium and dark pink, two shades of purple and two kinds of cream roses. Since there are about two choices for each color, I guess I haven't really made the final decision. I'm still judging the different varieties each day to see how the blooms open and how well they stand up to bruising...stuff like that. I'll pick the more "hardy" varieties.
The best part of this company is the price. I can order 500 roses and end up paying less than $400. Doing the flowers myself is a little more labor intensive than going with a florist, but I'll feel a great accomplishment in doing the flowers myself, and I'll get just what I want at a fraction of the price a florist would charge. [Besides, I'll have a whole wedding party to help strip rose stems. ;-)]
Johnie and I finally went to register last week. We started out a JC Penny (Johnie's favorite store) but they don't seem to get the whole idea of customer service.(Short story I don't feel like getting into right now) We ended up at Macy's. Then we went to Pottery Barn. We still haven't found everything we'd like, so we'll go back to JC Penny on Sunday. I think three places should be enough. Considering we still have to finish the basement of the house and do some landscaping, we probably should be registering at Home Depot. :-) |
