Bride's Journal

Here's the place I keep track of my many triumphs, disappointments and changes as I plan this wedding.

IT'S HERE!!!!  My wedding dress has arrived at the bridal shop.  And ahead of schedule no less.  I am so happy.  I had visions of past brides who had bridal manufacturers making them feel as if they were holding their dresses hostage, taking weeks and even months longer than was quoted to make the dress.  I must have conjured it up, because I was thinking yesterday, "I never asked the bridal shop when my dress was coming in.  Let me call them."  And before I had a chance they called me.

This is great, now I can have *my* dress on when I try on head pieces.  I'm thinking tiara.  :-) It was so hard to really get an idea of how their veils and head pieces looked when I tried on the sample.  It was too small, so it's kind of hard to get the full effect when two women are holding various parts of the gown so you can see yourself in the mirror.  Now, I can have on my dress and there is still plenty of time should I have to order the veil.

As for other areas of the wedding preparation.  The DJ and limo company and videographer have been selected. The original company we wanted for all three had a package, but they  didn't seem to understand the comcept of calling people back.  My father must have called them a half dozen times.  Finally he went with the DJ my parents hired for their New Year's Eve Party, another limo company and our photographer said he'd get someone to videotape.  Actually, going with the three different people ended up costing less than the "package" deal that the original company offered.  Go figure!  I guess they are so popular in Boston right now, they don't worry about losing business.

I'm still working on getting measurements from all of the bridesmaids.  But that should be taken care of by the end of the month at the latest.  Hopefully, those dresses will come in as fast as the wedding dress did.  I've also made a decision on favors and the design of the program.  Now I just have to get all of the elements together.  Oh yeah!  I HAVE GOT to order the invitations!  (note to self)

Well, I've gotten so much more accomplished in the last couple of days.  Last Thursday, Lin and I went to the bridal shop.  I tried on my dress for the first time.  It fit perfectly.  All it needs is a hem.  I even liked the fullness of the skirt the way it is.  There is a little bit of crinoline in it, so I'm not going to buy an additional crinoline slip.  Great!  Less layers in the hot of August.  :-) (Please let there not be a heat wave.)

I picked out my headpiece while we were there too.  I think it really sets off the dress.  There are bugle beads and pearls to match the accents in the bodice of the dress, and they're even going to add some small pink pearls to pick up the pink color in the dress.  I was thinking tiara, but with most tiara's having rhinestones and/or pearls, they just didn't seem to go with the dress.  I think what I chose matched the dress better.

Last night I finally ordered the invitations.  They should be ready in about a week to ten days.  I decided not to go all out on the invitations.  Most folks don't save them beyond the wedding day.  But I think they really set the tone for what I want to be the "theme" for this wedding...simple elegance.

Next up, is finalizing the guest list database.  We still have about a dozen addresses to collect. But we're in pretty good shape.  We shouldn't have any problem getting the invitations in the mail by June 15th.

I can't believe it....It's almost here!  :-)
