Clontibret O'Neills who made national
headlines when they swept the boards in competitions in Monaghan in
1997 have hit the headlines again with the launch of a new club
competition for the province of Ulster! Sponsored by Bank
of Ireland the competition is an
inter-club tournament for the winners of the intermediate championship
from all nine counties and judging by the atmosphere at the launch in
the Squealing Pig in Monaghan on 1st February the club are on to a
winner. As well as their own officers and members of the county
committee they had representatives from eight of the nine clubs who
will be taking part.
The tournament is sponsored by Bank
of Ireland and regional manager
Gabriel Bannigan in congratulating the club on such a marvellous
initiative said how pleased the bank was to be associated with such a
novel adventure. County board chairman also congratulated Clontibret
on their courage in taking on such a task and said that it reflected
the outward looking attitude that had helped to make Clontibret one of
the leading clubs in Ulster. The other officers who attended, County
board secretary, John Heaphey, John P. Graham and Sean McCague all
echoed the sentiments of the chairman. Mick O'Dowd who along with
Michelle Murphy, Declan "Willie" Moen, Niall Magennis and
Brian McSkane brought the idea to fruition acted as master of
ceremonies and expressed himself extremely pleased with the turnout.
He also had special words for the Squealing Pig who sponsored the
press launch.
