(The Human Body)

The Lymphatic System: Is a one-way system of channels that drains fluid and fights infection.

Lymph is the fluid that flows through this system. The lymph network is like the circulatory

system. There are collections of lymph nodes along the way and lymph ducts that come together

eventualy and empty out into the main viens near the heart. Lymph is like the other blood of

the body. But, this blood is found in the spaces between cells and goes through tubes called

lymph ducts. It flows through lymph nodes where it is filtered and cleaned. Lymph travles

around the body and distributes fats, digested nutrients, and collects wastes which it returns to

the blood after it has been filtered. Lymph and the blood itself is what carries the bodies army

of white blood cells. This forms the basis of the immune system.

lymphocytes: primary white cells, they recognize invaders

* Types of Lymphocytes:

B-cells: develop fully in the bone marrow, they produce antibodies against invaders, when they are activated by an antigen they become plasma cells and make antibodies

(Focus on the Human Body)

T-cells: migrate to the thymus gland and fully develop there,
-Killer T-cells: attack invaded cells directly using toxic chemicals
-Helper T-cells: Help B cells make antibodies
