An annual festival held for more than a century, the traditional long-boat races draws thousands of visitors from all over. This event is further enhanced by a light and sound presentation at Prasat Hin Phimai, local art and cultural performances, various fun-filled competitions, and sales of local products and exhibitions.

This festival, known as Loy Krathong Sai, is celebrated in a rather unique manner. Local people thread together hundreds of Kratongs made from coconut shells, and launched them on the river creating a beautiful necklaced line of light. The highlight of the festival is the Krathong competition with the winner receiving His Majesty the King's trophy.

Tak, this event is celebrated in a rather unique manner whereby local people thread together their
krathongs which are launched simultaneously and appear as lighted necklaces on the Ping River.
Loi Krathong Sai Festival and A Thousand Floating Candles for His Majesty's Trophy Ping River, Amphoe Muang, Tak Locals use the river for the Loi Krathong Festival and the Loi Krathong Sai tradition is a local tradition. The way of making Krathongs here is different from other areas in that a coconut shell is used to make the Krathong with a wick or fuel, then it is released onto the river at an equal distance from the next Krathong, creating the image of a line of lighted Krathongs on the water. - Tak Municipality, tel. River Kwai Bridge Week or The Death Railway

The hills and valleys of Mae Hong Son turn golden when the Mexican Sunflower (Tithonia Diversifolia) come into bloom this month.When the flowers fade, the seeds are used to make insecticides, The scene of blooming sunflowers is at its most photogenic at Doi Mae U-kor in Amphoe Khun Yuam.

Internationally, Thailand has always been famous for its lustrous silk. One of the major centres of silk production, Khon Kaen is the venue of a fair to promote silk weaving and sericulture. This event is held in conjunction with the Phuk Siao friendship ritual of the northeast. Colourful street processions and typical Isan cultural shows as well as exhibits on the silk industry add to the fun of the fair.
Everybody has heard of Thailands lustrous silks. Khon Kaen is one of the major centres of production. Many shops offer the beautiful fabric at this fair, which is combined with the traditional Phuk Siao (friendship-making) ritual. Festival processions and cultural shows enhance the atmosphere.
