The Guide programme has, with much publicity, been completely revised to start the 2000 - 2001 year; less dramatically but equally controversially, the Ranger programme has also been changed and the Look Wider programme has been dragged kicking and screaming into the twenty-first century. Ill-informed press coverage has led to some public questioning of whether the Guide movement is "losing its standards" but, having worked with the new handbook for a term now, the girls have given it an unequivocal "thumbs-up" and are now working on the updated Octants with renewed enthusiasm.
