Deposits and Refunds
Deposits are on all ready-to-serve beverage containers.
Exemptions are:
1. Milk - Update
2. Domestic beer (Some have voluntarily registered their containers).
Deposits are:
5 cents on containers 1 litre or less
20 cents on containers over 1 litre
10 cents for import beer.
Refunds are the same as deposits
Domestic Beer is exempted from being registered. Bottle depots will usually accept domestic beer brands at a reduced rate to enable them to pay handling and shipping of these containers to Brewers Distributors Ltd. (BDL) who collect the domestic beer.
Handling Fees
Handling Fees are legislated on containers other than liquor.
3 cents is paid on containers less than 500ml
5 cents is paid on containers greater than 500 ml
3.55 cents is paid on import beer
5 cents is paid on liquor
The retailer only has to take back refillable containers. The manufacturers pay 1.55 cents per container for handling.
