RIMC-the "Cradle for
Excellence",is exquisitely concieved and brilliantly programmed,the college
strives to make a man of every boy fortunate enough to enter it's portals.The
entire curriculum is geared to mould cadets into future leaders.The 5 year
plan of RIMC,is exacting yet exciting in its variety.Activities are Objective-based
and precisely timed.
The college is administered by the Union Ministry
of Defence through Directorate General of Military Training,Army Headquaters.Being
a catagory 'A' establishment of Ministry of Defence,the object of Govt.
of India in maintaining the college is to train suitable candidates
for admission to NDA in such a way that they appear in the entrance examination
conducted by UPSC for entry into the NDA.However the course of study is
such that should a boy fail to gain admission in the NDA,he will be in
a position to join a college,professional institution or university on
graduating from the RIMC.There are five annual academic levels at the college
split into 10 six-monthly levels,from class VIII to class XII which makes
RIMC perhaps the only institution in the country where CBSE exams for class
X and XII are conducted twice a year, that means it has a total of four
Board Examinations every year (May & Nov.). The medium of instruction
is English,RIMC also has Physics,Chemistry and Biology labs with latest
equipments and experienced staff. The College library has over 15000 books
some of them rare and date back to 19th century. The student to teacher
ratio at the RIMC is an incredible 10:1. All the teachers are recommended
by the UPSC and enjoy the status of Gazetted Central Govt Officers with
housing inside the campus.
The academic instruction imparted is designed
to prepare the students for the following examinations:-
(a) RIMC Secondary School Examinations at
the end of class X conducted by the Army Headquaters.The Central Board
Secondary Education,New Delhi recognizes this examination at the end of
class X.
(b) RIMC Senior School Certificate Examination at
the end of Class XII conducted by the Army Headquarters. The CBSE recognises
this as equivalent to its Class XII examination of the 10+2 system of
education.
(c) Union Public Service Commission Examination
for admisiion to the NDA, for which the minimum educational qualification
prescribed is a pass in Class XII or equivalent examination.
All co-curricular activities at the College conplement
the core-curriculum. The College provides ample scope for the enrichment of the
social and cultural life of the cadets. They provide free play to their natural
interest and make education interesting and effective, various activities are
organised at different levels at the College. In order to give the cadets an
opportunity for self-expression and recreation, as many as twelve clubs and societies
are run by the cadets themselves under the guidance of the staff. They are Journalism,
Rifle shooting, Music, Art, Current Affairs, Photography, Aeromodelling, Alchemists,
Young Newtons, Craft, Horse riding, Golf and Gardening. The school organises regular
Debating and quiz competitions. The school has a computer
lab with large number of computers and an internet access from the Dehra Dun node
of VSNL. Students are free to use these facilities at all times.
Sports constitute a major part in the development of
young boys and RIMC provides immense facilities and opportunities to boys to make
full use of this facet of training. Virtually all sports and games are played in
the RIMC which include Boxing, Football, Hockey & Squash. RIMC has consistently
held the top seeds of the country in Squash including the famous alumni Raj Manchanda
who was awarded the Arjuna Award. The sprawling 134 acres campus of RIMC affords a
lot of games fields , basketball courts and squash courts, apart from a indoor
swimming pool, a boxing amphitheatre, and a pavillion.
In the middle of each six month term, the school
organises compulsory hike and adventure activities class wise. These include
Para Sailing, Rafting, Mountaineering, Hiking, Cycling, Hot air Balooning and
Naval Cruise. There are also trips conducted to Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Chandigarh,
Mussorie, Nainital, Lansdowne, Rishikesh, Hardwar and others. The Rimcollians
(old boys) generally at every station ensure that the boys are comfortable and
enjoy their hikes.
