The admission to the RIMC is biannual i.e. on 17 January and 18 July
each year. As per RIMC regulations 1976, to be eligible for entry, candidates (boys only)
should not be less than 11 1/2 years of age but must not have attained the age of 13 years
on 1st Jan ( for the term commencing on 17 Jan) and 1st July ( for the term commencing on
18 July) However, the actual dates notified from time to time by Govt of India, Ministry
of Defence in all the National / Leading newspapers are to be taken into account.
Admissions are made to Class I ( equivalent to Class VIII ) only. The candidates should be
studying in Class VII from a recognised school at the time of admission to the RIMC. They
should also be medically fit for entry to the college, in accordance with the medical
standards prescribed by the government. For admission to the
college, candidates are selected on the basis of their performance in an All India
Entrance Examination held twice a year. The general standard is of Class VII. The scheme
of Exam is as under:
(a) Written: The written part of the examination consists of a test
paper in English (125 marks), Mathematics (200 marks), and General Knowledge (75 marks).
Candidates can offer English or Hindi medium for the test in Mathematics. The General
Knowledge can be taken in English, Hindi or any one of the regional languages. To qualify
a candidate must obtain a minimum of 50 percent marks in each subject.
(b) Oral: The oral examination consists of a Viva Voce test carrying
50 marks, designed to assess the candidate's intelligence, personality and confidence. As
in the written examination, to qualify a candidate must obtain a minimium of 50 percent
marks.
The actual conduct of the Entrance Examination is the responsibility
of each State Government. Hence applications for admission are to be submitted in
duplicate in the prescribed form to the Chief Secretaries of the State Governments/ Union
Territories/ Administration within whose jurisdiction the applicant normally resides by
the date as prescribed by the Ministry of Defence.
There are no reservations for admissions to the RIMC.
About 22 cadets are selected for each term for final admission to
the RIMC.
A medical examination is held at the nearest Military Hospital prior
to the final selection.
There are no day scholars at the RIMC.
