Theory and practice of holistic and cultural health assessment of individuals
and families across the life span emphasizing not only normal findings but
appropriate assessment techniques to be used with specific cultures.
3303 Gerontological Nursing (2-0):
Introduction to gerontologic nursing principles and standards. Selected
concepts and issues related to aging and its impact on health care and society.
3304 Health Promotion Across the Life Span (3-0):
Health and health promotion for individuals, families, and communities. The
nurse’s role in health promotion. Clinical experience in health promotion.
3305 Introduction to Community-Focused Nursing Practice (2-3):
Exploration of population-focused settings for community health nursing
practice. Application of models and methods of community health, health
planning, epidemiology, and research. Clinical experience in the community.
3306 Trends and Issues in Professional Nursing (2-0):
Addresses pertinent trends and issues impacting professional nursing and the
health care delivery system in general. A framework for ethical decision making
is presented. Evaluation of Web-based information addressed.
4303 Nursing Leadership and Management (2-3):
Theories and concepts related to leadership and management skills are applied
to the role of the professional nurse in a continuously changing health care
environment. Focuses on contemporary professional and societal issues that
influence nursing practice in a changing health care environment. Analyzes
techniques of problem solving, conflict resolution, and delegation as related
to clinical practice. Nursing care delivery systems of the professional nurse
in a continuously changing health care environment. Focuses on contemporary
professional and societal issues that influence nursing practice in a changing
health care environment. Analyzes techniques of problem solving, conflict
resolution, and delegation as related to clinical practice. Nursing care
delivery systems are explored.
4304 Advanced Community-Focused Nursing Practice (2-3):
Exploration of population –focused settings for community health nursing
practice. Application of models and methods of community health, health
planning, epidemiology, and research.
4305 Legal and Ethical Nursing Issues (3-0):
Ethical, legal, legislative, and political processes that have impact upon the
practice of professional nursing in contemporary health care. Identifying
strategies for personal and professional empowerment.
4306 Research (3-0):
Basic concepts, processes and application of nursing research. Research role of
the nurse in decision-making and clinical practice.
4307 Client and Peer Teaching (3-0):
Teaching focuses on collaboration between the nurse and clients/peers. It
includes an assessment of learning needs, the implementation of planned
learning experiences, and the evaluation of process and product of teaching.
Teaching-learning theories/principles are used as a basis for educational
planning intervention.
Electives:
May not be offered each semester. Requirement for graduation = 6 credits,
either senior or junior level.
4210 Special Topics: Nursing Art: Magic of Music Intervention
(2-0):
Nursing elective course introduces the theory and practice of music as a
nursing intervention. Emphasis is placed on the concept of energy and its
influence on the autonomic nervous system continuum as it relates to learning,
health, and human growth. The course includes exploration of theory and
experiential learning opportunities.
4211 Special Topics: Omega Strategies (2-0):
Theories and strategies related to concepts of care at the end of life. The
emphasis is on the nurse as a member of an interdisciplinary team and the need
for attention to the cultural factors influencing care at the end of life.
There is currently a wide gap between the reality of end of life care, and the
kind of care each of use would seek. This course is a guide to prepare nurses
to be competent and compassionate professionals who can lead a transformation
in care at the end of life.
4212 Cooperative Nursing Work Experience (2-0):
Designed for nursing cooperative education students to integrate classroom
study with career-related practical experience in the workplace.
4313 Electronic Information Retrieval in Health Care (3-0):
Experience in the use of electronic information tools to access and manage
health care information in an electronic format.
3310 Advanced Nursing: Natural Family Planning (2-3):
Investigation of natural family planning, strategies, and the application of
these methods to various reproductive states. Development of a knowledge base
for patient teaching and practice in natural family planning education.
3311 Legacy of the Family (3-0):
Explore and enhance understanding and application of the principles of family
science knowledge in therapeutic relationships with families across the
lifespan.
3312 Nursing Assessment and Interventions for Domestic Abuse (3-0):
Explores the dynamics of family violence as to etiologies, assessments and
interventions for both survivors and perpetrators of violence.
