Biography: |
Le Loi was born into a rich family, with thousands of servants. During that time, Vietnam was under Chinese (Ming Dynasty) occupation. The Chinese offered Le Loi a post, but he refused, stating that he would rather do something useful for the Viet people than be a servant for the Chinese. In 1418, he gathered his followers and started a revolution to free Vietnam from the Chinese. It took 10 long and difficult years (1427) but he was finally able to get rid of the Chinese and brought independence once again for Vietnam. In 1428 he proclaimed himself emperor and formed the Later Le Dynasty.

Achievements: |
All Vietnamese nowadays should be thankful to Le Loi because without him, Vietnamese way of life and customs would be lost. His most notable achievement was to gain independence for Vietnam after a brief 20 years of Chinese colonization, from 1407 to 1427. After became emperor he tried to revive education, customs, and the economy, all of which were either slowed down or changed during the Chinese occupation.

Criticisms: |
Although Le Loi had great contributions to the history of Vietnam, however, he still made some mistakes. During his reign he killed some of his former comrades in arm, who followed him all those years. Never the less, he was a good ruler so he received a rating of 7 out of 10.
