Dream Log > Turning Japanese! [December 26, 2001 and January 3, 2002]
[home > dream log > turning japanese]

Like the old song goes - "I think I'm turning Japanese..."
[future glimpse? super realistic.]

December 26, 2001 : part 1 of a multipart dream.

Dreamt last night about waking up living in a house in a fairly rural part of Japan as a practicing Buddhist.

The dream was very vivid and detailed from waking just as the sunlight crested the horizon and shone through the bedroom window to the warmth of the young japanese woman sharing the bed (in the dream I thought of her as my wife). I even dreamt of being disoriented with the low furniture (smacked my shin on a dining table thinking the room was empty in the early morning light and cursed a long string of "colorful metaphors") and the views of the mountains out the window - it was apparent that we recently moved there and it had something to do with business deals that had to be attended to in person (from what my "character" was thinking while moving about the house. Later on, after getting dressed then inspecting and reflecting on the architecture, furnishings, view, art, etc in the house I sat down for Peppermint tea and picked up a computer tablet (basically just a voice interface LCD monitor meant for reading news & email) & was grumbling something about not having any good bagels since moving.

Just as I was about to open an email from my daughter Tori who, from the subject line, was at a private academy studying, the woman came into the room wearing a silk robe (floral print on a tan colored robe). After saying "Ohayo" (which I somehow knew meant "good morning" - looked it up later in a translation guide) with a quick kiss poured herself some steaming tea and kindly reminded me of transit times on the maglev to the city and that her uncle would be displeased if I was late to that mornings meeting.

So much for relaxation...I grabbed another computer off the desk, which was a sort of e-book style device, and headed out the door. Walking through the gardens to the front gate.

[This is when I woke up (4:00am real time) and try as I might, could not get back to the dream (or sleep for that matter).]

January 3, 2002 : part 2 of the 12/26/01 dream, this one picks up later the same day.

the dream started in a conference room, it was on the 20th floor (or so) in some generic high rise, not sure of the city, but the skyline included a bay with a built up island which could have been kansai (sp?) airport. several very serious looking, Japanese men age was youngish intern types to grey haired (more important/serious looking) dressed in pin stripped suits sat around the table. I had been walking (pacing? which is probably really rude in Japanese culture), looking out the windows as I was talking. there were a couple other Westerners, one of whom suggested we break for a tour of the labs.

the group moved out of the conference room and into the hall which was carpeted in grey patterned carpet with electric blue stripes following along the wall (about 1' out), plants and pictures spaced around the walls, very corporate looking. it was a short walk to the main lab, along the way I spoke with my "wife's" uncle about some upcoming country picnic and he was asking if my "other" children (implying the ones from before marrying his niece I guess) would be able to take a trip to attend.

the lab was a large windowless room. biometric scanning of handprint/retina for access. the walls were dark grey and the floor was black tile. lights were low and strategically placed with pools of radiance around desks, track lights splashed purple, blue, green light on the ceiling/walls...very artistic. at the center of the room was a large black cylinder about 2 meters high and 1 meter diameter, it had 7 or 8 protrusions evenly spaced that stuck out perhaps a foot that would have made it look like a gear from the top, each of these had a large flat panel kiosk alive with data traces and such.

there were engineers working all around, including a small group that was in a heated discussion about some intelligent agent code and animatedly pointed at a pad computer that was the center of the groups attention. they quieted down when they saw the group of suits watching. many of the engineers were Westerners.

I explained that the central gear shaped machine was the central server/node in the project to the financial people. one of the other in the group took over explaining some of the technology as well as introducing key financial people with the various engineers or project leads that were part of what was being discussed at the moment.

"wife's" uncle was apparently the go between that was facilitating the meeting with the financial people as a message from his pad computer (Instant Message agent :) ) to me said that things were looking like a "sure thing" and that the financial decision makers were not only impressed they were very happy about progress so far.

The scene kinda shifted unexpectedly. Maybe later same day or something. Less people around.

The dream ended with seeing the face of a blonde haired, blue eyed young female researcher. She had a page-boy haircut and a nice smile and she stood behind a desk sized semi-circular terminal. she wore a light blue buttoned blouse and some plain gold necklace. Walked up behind her and placing hands on her hips I gently moved/guided her out of the way saying something like "excuse me, let me see the problem."

analysis:
* this dream took place around 2010 according to the date on the computer (something about april, 2010).
* is it fiction, a glimpse of what will be, or the construct of how I want things to be in 8 more years?
* from a brief reflection in a mirror I had a nice streak of silvery/grey hair along the side, apparently no pattern baldness at 43 or so. :)
* don't often have dreams in a "series", though I have a couple times in the past.
* have no clue about the final part of the dream...the face of the blonde woman is burned into my memory though, not someone to avoid if I ever meet her in the future. :)
