Galacticus
Galacticus is the codename for a massively multiplayer grand strategy game I am
working on. This is my favorite pet project and parts of the code (such
as the star/planet generation) stretch back 10+ years to code I wrote as GM
tools for paper/dice Role Playing and Strategy games.
After being away from this type of game for a long time I picked up a copy of
Galactic Civilizations although GalCiv was nicely updated from the
original OS/2 version I was almost immediately disgusted by the lack of
multiplayer. In my opinion strategy games should always be multiplayer,
sure add some AI opponents in for randomness but if that is all the game has to
offer then true playability (and re-playability) suffer! As a result
of this disgust, and the lack of any really good options I decided to put my
free time toward building the perfect 4X grand strategy game. Thus Project Galacticus was resurrected.

Atomic Space Navy
I am currently porting Atomic Space Navy to the Windows Mobile platform!
I ran into this game developer I knew from way back while I was at the recent
Windows Mobile Developers Conference and he convinced me to port ASN from
C++/Desktop to C#/WinCE .NET Compact Framework. I couldn't resist the
challenge.
Update August 2004 - I have this game finished to a
playable/demo state in emulators but I have been having trouble finding a way
to market the game (not that I have been putting too much effort in the
attempt - if I did find a marketting channel I don't really have the time
to complete the game since I am spending all my free time on
Galacticus).

December 2004 Update! - I found a few screen shots of the game running in a Smartphone emulator! Here are the
more interesting shots.

Player ship is approaching a couple of AI units that just exited a Wormhole into the players sector. |
|
Kablooie! Add one to the score (scoring in the port was pretty lame, well actually the game was pretty
lame since one shot took out a ship sorta like in the old 80's arcade games). |

.CORE/Cyberspace
.CORE and Cyberspace 1.0 are no longer my active projects. I sold them off
lock, stock and source tree to an unnamed Fortune 500 company that really likes
Java and Distributed platforms for an undisclosed sum of mon-ay.
With the sale I am officially out of the Java development and starting over on
Microsoft .NET (in fact I can't work on Distributed Architecture Java
applications as part of the sales contract - except to provide tech support for
the original codebase).
About all I can say about .CORE/Cyberspace is that it was a Distributed
Development Architecture written in Java that provided Optimized Object
Replication, Strong Security, Inter-Object Messaging, Distributed Session
Management, DB Interface (MS SQL 2000), and Asynchronous State Management. It
was pretty damn cool and the sweat paid off in a really nice check from the
buyer. :-)
BTW, they didn't stipulate that I couldn't build a distinctly different, yet
functionally similar system in C#/.NET (hint, hint)!!!

Pacifica Eco Village
Pacifica Eco Village is the next evolutionary step in American living, once
implemented it will become the showcase community of how to have a higher
standard of living while living in a smaller ecological footprint.

Plan Belize *
My scheme to move to Belize and live on a 600 acre organic vineyard with 3
or more wives (legally speaking, 1 wife and 1-2 mistresses). BTW, I need at least 1 or 2 more
women to join my wife and I. :)
After 20 years of hard technical work I would rather work a vineyard and kick
back to enjoy the fruits of the labor.
* for those that don't personally know me, plan belize might just be a joke designed
to provoke a response and/or hatemail. Then again... ;-)

Models
With my newfound relaxation time since I stopped developing .CORE and
Cyberspace I am looking for a hobby. I am thinking of constructing a model ship
or building an N-gauge model railroad empire!
Q1 2005 Update! I am currently building a small diorama for some Gundam models I put together!
I get to use all types of skills from past model railroading projects and it really is
quite fun/relaxing. One of the cool things is that the models I liked were N-Scale (1:144)
so there are all manner of buildings, vehicles and people to add to the scenes!
