Karl and Jim on one of Jim's boats

Lighting the Way

From our simple beginnings with this 16' wooden no-name (homemade) boat, we received our introduction to the wonderful world of boating. We found boating to be the best way to do things as a family, and all our children have fond memories of those "good old days" and still love boats. Sorry, very badly faded picture

Karl put a flybridge on this boat eventually

This 25' Owens was the first boat to give us facilities to stay overnight. Today, we wonder how all five us (and the cat) managed! The fun we had are the source of great boat stories, including how everything leaked when in rough seas!
This 35' Chris Craft was a beautiful boat which gave us the opportunity to do lots of sanding and painting in addition to fun on the water. It ranks among the most comfortable of those in our boating history.

We traveled quite a bit on this Chris Craft

Total comfort and safety, a roomy dream come true, but it had "problems"

This 40' double-cabin trawler was not our last boat, but it was our largest. Everyone who was on her says it was the best one we had. And I have to agree! It had live-aboard potential and ignited many fantasies.

This 28' Winner was the next-to-last boat we owned and I would have been happy to own it forever. But the Chief Mechanic and Fiberglas Washer was tired of the responsibility and we moved down to a smaller boat for daytime use.

Perfect for two

Too basic for Fran's taste but a good boat nonetheless

It was with this 20' Shamrock boat that we concluded our boating lifestyle, and we've moved on to a new passion. I miss the boating way of life (but part of it is nostalgia for the way our lives were then); however, life does change.

After having seen all these boat pictures, you may be wondering what in the world we did on them. We "rafted-up," of course! In the picture to the right, we are the third boat from the right. During the summer we went out every Friday night and returned Sunday night, and we looked for a raft-up.

This gave the children an opportunity to find other kids to play with, and the adults the opportunity to be with other adults (however, some of us were more adult than others!).

After many years of boating, we decided to enter the world of motorhomes instead.
So now we are starting a new chapter: adventure on the open road!

We looked and looked, and even rented a motorhome. Our search finally led us to this 35' 1993 Pace Arrow (see THE FUTURE) which gives us a comfortable lifestyle while on the road and at rest. There is so much to see in this country, and we are ready to see it!

Never thought we'd have one this nice

Looks like a brochure picture, but I took it myself! With spacious accommodations like this, we are all set to do some great traveling. The doorway on the left has a small windowed partition next to the table and chairs. Toward the back, after an aisle which runs along the left side, there is a spacious bedroom. Between the bedroom and the kitchen area is a bathroom with tub and shower.

Our first "big" vacation was a two week trip to Florida. We stayed at Fort Wilderness on the Disney grounds for three days, and it was a wonderful experience.

We welcomed in 2000 in Florida, for three glorious weeks, beginning in Fort Myers Beach and then on to the Keys and up to Fernandina Beach.

We are planning to be part of the Oshkosh Fly-In in July 2000, fulfilling a dream Karl's had for many years -- immersing himself in airplanes!

My wish is go to to Mono Lake in California, this side of Yosemite. I saw it in the distance as we left Yosemite for Death Valley via car, and I just have to get back there for a closer look!
