Movie Summary

By: Karl Fong

The Godfather Part II, like the original Godfather, once again followed the reign of the Corleone family. After the death of Vito Corleone, the family is now controlled by his youngest son Michael. The movie provides a more in depth look into the Corleone family through the use of present day shots combined with flashbacks, to give more background information than was received in the first movie.

The main plot line of the story is one of Michael Corleone and his quest to determine who his enemies are, to finally eliminate all his enemies and removing his wife and children from danger. the one scene that really captures the amount of power Michael Corleone has as the Godfather is the Senate hearing. In this scene enemies of Corleone lie to protect the family not only for fear of their own lives, but out of fear every person they know and care about will be killed.

Two other storylines surrounded the main plot: one of Michael Corleone's family life and the other the story of young Vito corleone. Through his interactions with his wife and children, Michael shows his caring side and his wish to leave the life of organized crime for a more traditional lifestyle.

Though not the main plot line the story of young Vito Corleone is what brings the stories together. shown through flashbacks, it gives the story of how Vito came to America and how he came to be the first Godfather. This was a much needed part in linking the two movies and ensuring that the first film would not be forgotten.
