Israel's fashion industry has rightfully gained international recognition, with names like Gottex and Gideon Oberzon being almost as prominent as St Laurent and Gucci, on world markets.

Internationally-earned acclaim by some of the country's top models - Shiraz Tal, Vic, Michaela Barko, Amit Mechtinger, Shiri Ben-Ari and others, together with an emerging base of talented designers, have added to Israel's many successes in this field.

Though the city of Tel Aviv serves as the heart of the country's fashion industry, Haifa and northern Israel have made major contributions, with many promising new designers and models hailing from these areas. The country's all-time fashion extravaganza, "Dressed for Peace", a multi-million dollar production honouring Israel's fashion offering in an era of regional peace, was held at Caesaria's ancient Roman amphitheatre, south of Haifa, and won world-wide acclaim in the industry.
