226, rue de Rivoli (across the street from the Louvers), Paris (0)1.42.60.82.00 C Atmosphere & Design - Great big tea room, classic style. It is told you can see all of the great models and rich & pretty people of Paris sitting there at all times. I saw none of them I fear. Perhapes they all have a secret room somewhere.. Service - Among the worst I have seen in France. GIve me Tel Aviv any day.. Also, there is a ruther long line coming in. The rest room is terrible and tricky, so watch your head. Recommended dish - Great hot chocolate (world famous, see a few lines down), Mont Blanc (great big mountain of whipped cream and chestnuts, oh mama!). yum yum.. In conclusion... Go there for the food, but be prepared for a not-so-very-nice service. Also, better dress up nice. We arrived wet and tired and felt very self concious among all the cream de la cream (oh yes - don't forget to ask for that thick thick gorgeous cream with your hot chocolate)
For a single cup of hot chocolate Boil 13 cl water.

171, Bd du Montparnasse 75006, Paris 01 40 51 34 50 R,C,P Atmosphere & Design - Classic, nice. You sit very close to the other people (like in most Parisian coffee houses). It's all very.. well.. Parisian. Trozki and Lenin used to sit here, as well as many many poets and writers. You can feel it in the air. Service - Polite and very professional. Price - 541 FR for two people having both first and main courses, dessert and warm and cold drinks. Most resonable I think. Recommended dish - My partner had the greatest ever scollops plate in an unbelievably reasonable price (75 FR!). His filet de dorade (nice nice fish) was also great (if you don't mind the anis taste). Our desserts, parfait with raspberry and the nicest palet au chocolate, were great. My steak tartar reminded me of a cold McDonald's with pickles though.. In conclusion... Go there, it's classic and tasty - A real taste of Paris. |

55BIS, Bd du Montparnasse 75006, Paris 45 44 78 05 R Atmosphere & Design - Big, pleasant and friendly. It was so much fun I insisted on coming back and ending our trip there. Service - The nicest I have seen in Paris. Almost made me forget where I am.. Quick, polite and friendly. Price - 736.40 FR for 6 people, 228.40 FR for two. Both times - no desserts. Recommended dish - Hmm.. I loved the moules in mustard sauce (prepared with white wine and lots of butter, excellent!). Served with tons of fresh bread and french fries it is a winning course. The first courses were also very good - The moules gratin were my favorite, thogh the crabes cocktail was highly praised by the others. So much so, that they finished it in two seconds and ordered another one before I could say "Jack". They also have special beers (yum yum - especially the fruity one, "Griotte" I believe) and great looking desserts, though on both times we were too full to order any.. In conclusion... The best I have been to in Paris. Go go go! |
Montreuil, par Dreux 02 37 43 50 25 R Go ahead, count them -
you are not mistaken,
Atmosphere & Design - Beautiful country side dream place. Classic tea room style inside, elegant menu and fabulous view to a little pastoral stream. This plus the most beautiful china make this place a certain winner before you even take your first taste. Service - Elegant, proffesional, helpful. Calssic french service. Price - 661 for 4 people Recommended dish - Unfortunatly, we arrived too late for lunch and had to "make do" with the cold buffet left overs. We had tea with cream, cheese plate (to die for..), fois gres and tarrin de la sesson (nice but not much more in myopinion). Wonderful campagne salad (with all sorts of greens, asparagus, cheese, anchovey and much more). But the best were the desserts - the best ever chocolate kroqet (there is a God!), unbelivable frozeb calavados sufle (brought tears to my eyes) and the simplest, most wonderful red fruit plate (no words to describe..). Finished with a nice glass of Port (not as good as the famous 1934 but still very tasty) it made us moan with comfort all the way home. In conclusion... An absolute must when going to France. The main reason for it getting more monkeys then Mul-Yam is the wonderful view. So beautiful, it is worth a monkey for itself. This is the real France, in my opinion. |

32 Bedforn st.WC2, London 0171-836-7486 R Atmosphere & Design - Italian restaurant near Covent Garden (my favorite place in London..). Flowers on the table, nice hideout form the rain. Service - Nice and fast. Price - 14.20 LST for two teas, orange juices and breakfasts. I think that's a bit too expensive. Recommended dish - I had the big english breakfast, with mushrooms, bacon, toast, poached tomato, two eggs and sausages (my favorite in the world!) and he had the smaller one - two eggs with bacon and toast. All in all - yummy. The best english breakfast I had in years (and do not be mistaken, I have been to England atleast three times during the last three years). Better even than the breakfast in the little victorian cottage in Bath (Dorian House) we went to two years ago.. Oh, the memories.. In conclusion... Great breakfast. I don't know how it is for bigger meals though.. |
125 Bourbon st. New Orleans Louisiana 70130 (504)410-1000 R,C,P Atmosphere & Design - Tourist's New Orleans at it's best, wonderful jazz (with a little big band) great drinks, classic jazzy interior with scarlet chairs and little tables around the little stage. There is a bar and a restaurant both are cool. Service - We had Lucy, who was very nice and helpful even she had her arms full. She was even friendly enough to explain the king cake and other mardi-gras issues to us forign crowd. Go Lucy! Price - 92.35$ for four not so very hungry people, all having drinks along side their little dinner. Recommended dish - The cocktails were very cool - nice "top shelf" Margaritta, great Cosmopolitan (defiantly the best drink when in the US). My firends all took shrimp platters and were happy with the little fried yum yum's. I had the local etouffe (black rice sauce, tiny fishy poohs and wild rice). I finally had the chance to try that king cake I always heard about. It was puffy, green purple and red and had a nice cream cheese filling. Finished with the treditional plastic baby stuck in it, it was donut like and very nice. Oh well - you have to try it once. In conclusion... Nice food, nice drinks, nice show. All in all - very nice. |
