The line between "words" and "pictures" is a fuzzy one for us. Some clients initially come to know us as writers, and some tend to pigeonhole us as illustrators. Actually, we're writers who draw, or maybe, artists who write. As you will see, our assignments often call for a combination of the two.

This section highlights a few of our current and past writing projects. You'll find other examples of our writing (and artwork) throughout the site.

GREETING CARDS

We've worked with lots and lots of greeting card companies. Among those companies are Hallmark, Gibson Greetings, American Greetings, Paramount, Amberley, Current, Recycled Paper Products, Argus, Oatmeal Studios and Vagabond Creations.

Here's an interview from the Cincinnati Enquirer in which we discussed the subject of writing greeting cards.

We've done quite a bit of artwork for cards companies as well. You can see some examples of that in our portfolio section.

BOOKS

Quite a bit of our time lately has been devoted to writing and illustrating a new book, to be published by Andrews McMeel in April '98. It's called "Every Excuse In The Book: 691 Ways To Say 'It's Not My Fault!'," and we've devoted an entire section of this web site to it.

GAG WRITING

We've done a bit of writing for comic strips. For a while, we ghosted for Mad Magazine's Maddest Artist, Don Martin, on his self-syndicated strip, THE NUTHEADS. More recently, we just completed a set of gags for a new series of BAZOOKA JOE comic strips.

Craig writes the ARCHIE comic strip, distributed by Creators Syndicate. You can see examples of this strip on Archie's own website. They post a new one daily, so check it out regularly!

POPULAR CHARACTERS

BIG BOY

Craig currently writes the stories in the BIG BOY comic books that the restaurant chain gives to kids as a premium.

Craig's tenure on Big Boy started in August of 1997, when the comic was taken over and given a facelift by a new studio. At the time of the switchover, some misinformation made it into the press, stating that the Big Boy comic had been canceled. This prompted a Quigmans cartoon by Buddy Hickerson on the subject of Big Boy's retirement. Rest assured, however, that Big Boy is alive and well and looking good.

JUGHEAD

Craig also writes the JUGHEAD comic book for Archie Comics. Here is an OHIO WRITER interview with Craig about his work with the Archie cast of characters.

DISNEY'S DOUG

DOUG is a character that began as a "Nicktoon" on Nickelodeon, then moved to ABC (retitled "Brand Spanking NEW! DOUG), and is now called DISNEY'S DOUG. Craig has written some DOUG stories for Disney's Adventures magazine, which can commonly be found at the check-out lanes of supermarkets.

One of Craig's DOUG stories, "King of the Ant Hill" (which he wrote and illustrated for an issue of Disney's Adventures magazine) has been adapted to limited animation and added to Disney's own web site. (Hint: When you get there, click on the ant heads to move forward and backward, and click on the little blinking word balloons to see what people are saying!)
