In May 5th. of 1996 Jotar reaches the empire: The Heathrow Airport to be precisely, in London. He travels in the seek of his old friend Lawrence (Lol) Grant. Of course, (as in this kind of action movies use to happen) he can't find him in the first place, so he travels all the island. From Loch Ness to Stirling. From Saint Andrews to Liverpool. From Caernarfon to Bath. (not taking exactly that way). Jotar and Lol finally meet each other almost a month later. There's no registers of drawings from our hero in that period, except for a little one dedicated to Caroline, a friend of Lol. Then, Jotar comes back to his beloved home in Argentina, ready to change his mind.
The rest of the year becomes in a waterfall of projects. Jotar is now 23. One late night, coming home in a train, Jotar starts to think in a new comic... about vampires. But he doesn't want to repeat the common places of that gender. So he designs two characters more human than humans... living (in dead) their vampiric lives. Suffering their grim destiny in the dark streets of a gloomy Buenos Aires. With you, Iggy and Alex, from Sombra & Alma, (Shadow & Soul).
Then Jotar feels is the time to fly free, and live for his own. He accords his departure with his parents. Even though they feel the loss, they're incredibly good parents to understand him. It's 1997. Jotar and a friend tryies to live together... but her fears and economic troubles makes her give the situation away. So Jotar starts alone... with a little help from his brothers to carry out the appartment.
Immediatly, Jotar buys a telephone with an answer machine and post an advice in a radio station looking for other drawers. The objetive: A magazine. Edgardo Carosia is the first serious drawer to understand and increase Jotar's seeking. More than 100 interviews with artist and writers. 10 persons in the last line. October of 1997. They work under the direction of Jotar and Edgardo. Qajas (the magazine) sees the light on May of 1998. Three issues financed by Jotar's pockets. An evolving experience, in despite of the project's failure due to the poorly response from readers, and the lack of practise in the business. Jotar sinks like a captain with his boat. It's Augost, and he reaches the 25 that month. From the distance, now he's proud of it, as others says to him how good it was that project.
In those dark moments Jotar explores a new world: the Internet. One day, searching for Radiohead's pages he finds Polyethylene... and their inhabitants: Sensitive people all around the world. More than a virtual presence. Jotar slowly goes back to the ground from the solitude of his oyster. He travels once again, this time to the north of his country, recovering his primary impulses, and planifying for the future. He contact -after his dessapearance- the Independent Comic Artist Assosiation (AHI, in Spanish) and returns to the work: Create an independent and strong position for the comic drawers and writers, excluded from the market.
Then, Valeria, a comic scriptwriter breaks the last layer of Jotar's shell. There's not enough words or picts to show how deep Jotar and Vale fit each other. But there's a child: the 2 pages comic "Dawn"
They're currently sharing their happy moments in this noisy world. It's not so important after all the return of the drawer ...but the man's spirit.
