Pokemon Snap

The first pokemon game for the N64, Pokemon Snap's goal is to take pictures of the pokemon of Pokemon Island. The Levels include a Beach, an Underground PowerPlant/Tunnel, a Volcano, a River, a Cave and a Valley, plus a secret level. Seems boring? it's not. I've played it and it's real fun! Use items like pokemon food, a pokeflute, and pester balls to lure pokemon out in the open, you can even see some pokemon evolve! Have fun! Graphix: 8.5 | Sound: 8.0 | Replay Value: 8.5 | Overall: 8.5

Level 1: Beach
If you have pester balls, throw some at the Snorlax for a pic, or even better if you have a pokeflute. If you have food, throw some at the Kangaskhan. If you have Pester Balls, throw them in the big bushes. If youre lucky, a Scyther will come out! Oh, and two Pikachu will go onto stumps, so take a picture of that for a bonus of 1300 points! Not only that, but if you play your pokeflute around a Pikachu, it will make electricity! Many things can give you bonus points, like if you get a picture of a pokemon, and there's others of the same species, or If they're performing, like Pikachu making electricity, or Pidgeys using GUST. It's up to you to find out what gives great bonus points, and point and shoot!

Level 2: Tunnel
In the entrance, a Pikachu might jump on a rolling Electrode, and a picture of that will give you quite a few points, especially if you're close! The only time you'll see an Electabuzz's face is at the beginning and a the end, so snap a pic of that! Pelt Electrodes that aren't moving to make them SELF-DESTRUCT, and snap away. Further into the tunnel, you'll spot a Pikachu close to an egg. Lure it beside the egg with food, then play your pokeflute and voila! A Zapdos will come out and turn on the electricity! Snap like crazy here, cuz the pix are spectacular! At the end of the level, to access the next level, make that Electrode explode, but before that, distract the Magnemite with food, then, if they're close enough, they'll become a Magneton!

Level 3: Volcano
My favorite level, the volcano is full of fiery pokemon. Throw some food into the incomming Rapidashes' way to make them neigh for bonus points, then throw some food and get a Vulpix close-up. When you see the Magmar and the Charmander, throw some food close to the Charmander, then the Magmar will get mad and burn the little guy, who then evolves into Charmeleon! When you stop beside the Moltres egg, throw food and the Charmander will call their buddies, then play your pokeflute for a great pic! Hit the egg with something, then make the Magmar fight for some food, then throw Pester Balls into the craters to make Growlithes or an Arcanine appear! Hit that Charmeleon into the lava to make it evolve! Snap a few shots and you're gone.

Level 4: River
Make the beginning Poliwag jump into the water with Pester Balls, then get those Bulbasaur out in the open! If you get a Slowpoke to a patch of dry land with no grass, it will go fishing and eventually evolve into Slowbro! Make the Vileplume come out with your pokeflute, then hit the Metapod with Pester Balls to make them come down. Hit the Psyduck to make it jump, and throw a Pester Ball at the walls with funny things sticking out, and out come the Porygon. Snap few pix of Cloyster, Shellder and Pikachu, then get the Porygon hiding behing the switch to come out and you'll access the caves.

Level 5: Caves
Hmm...Hit the Grimers with Pester Balls to make them evolve and get some pix. Wait a minute, those Bulbasaurs' faces are weird! Throw a Pester Ball, and it will turn back into a Ditto! Hit those Koffings with Pester Balls, and make the Jigglypuffs happy, then hit the Weepinbell with a Pester Ball to make it fall into the water and evolve! wake up the Jynx with the pokeflute and they'll crack open the egg to free and Articuno! Get lots of pix of that! Level 6: Valley
Hit the shells in the water with Pester Balls to make the Squirtles come out, then hit that Magikarp toward the Mankey who will send it flying. Then hit the Geodudes with Pester Balls to make them come down and Sandshrews will come up. Hit the two Geodudes and a Graveler will come down and a Sandslash will come out. When you find that Magikarp onland again, hit it with a Pester Ball and it will evolve! Those Gravelers will come down if you play your pokeflute. Some Staryu will jump into the whirlpool and evolve, throw some food into the water to make Goldeens or Dratini come out. Throw Pester Balls into the whirlpool to make a Dragonite come out! Hit the Squirtle's shell to make it hit the Mankey, then hit the Mankey with a Pester Ball and it will roll out onto the switch and you'll enter the Prof's Secret Cove. He'll send you out after the scenery that looks like pokemon, so get a pic of the Dugtrio mountain, a pic of those diaamond-like things in the Caves Level (they turn out to form a pic of Mewtwo), a pic of the Cubone Tree behind the Vileplume in the River Level, a pic of the Koffing smoke in the Volcano Level (you have to throw a Pester Ball into the volcano crater at the beginning), a pic of the shadow of a Pinsir (you have to wake up the Zapdos) in the Tunnel Level, and a Pic of Kingler Rock on the Beach Level. Have fun on the next secret level, the Rainbow Cloud!

Pokemon Snap

The shores of Pokemon Island are about to open and allow visitors! Prepare for an experience like no other as you travel through a three-dimensional Pokemon playground, snapping souvenirs along the way.

A personalized Pokemon Photo Safari
There won't be any rumbles with Team Rocket on this trip-Proffesor Oak has strictly forbidden pokemon collectors from the island because he knows they would overrun it in seconds. Instead, he has invited Todd, a young and gifted photographer with an eye for capturing wildlife on film. As Todd, you must travel the varied terrain of Pokemon Island and help the professor complete his report. It won't be easy, though. Professor Oak will judge all of your photos, so you'll need luck and a trained eye to impress him!

Gotta Print 'em out
One of the best features Pokemon Snap is you'll be able to convert your pictures into stickers. It's simple: just build up a portfolio of snapshots, then take your game down to your nearest Blockbuster Video store and print out your favorites. It'll cost you a measly three bucks for 16 stickers-prices will be slightly higher in Canada-and the process takes no time at all. One-hour photo shops must be green with envy.

Turn your masterpieces into stickers
The gallery is made up of your four best shots, which will produce four stickers when you print them out at Blockbuster. You can shuffle these four around with pictures fromthe Report or your Album.

The sticker machine accepts all major pokemon credit cards
Look for the pokemon display at your local Blockbustre store, then purchase a collectible smart card at the counter. Plug your Game Pak and the card into the display, choose your shots and print them up!

Basic Strategies

Double your pleasure
One pokemon is great, but if you manage to get more of the same kind in one picture, the professor will award you with extra points. Don't go overboard, though, or you'll be penalized for not having your pokemon centered inside the frame.

Get trigger happy
You'll have 60 shots in one film, so don't be afraid to shoot like crazy. If you catch a pokemon doing something exciting, keep snapping away-that way you'll have a lot to choose from for the report.

Pester Ball craze
Remember, you have a limitless supply of Pester Balls. With that in mind, there's nothing stopping you from throwing them everywhere. Practice tossing them into bushes or other small places and a pokemon just might come out!.

Magikarp! Magikarp!
In level 6, you will find a Magikarp. Those of you who watch Pokemon the TV show all remember what happened when James kicked Magikarp, huh? Well, throw a Pester Ball at it!

Level 1: A day at the beach
A slow cruise along the shore is just what the professor ordered for your first trip, so take your time getting used to the camera-you don't have to see everything at once. Don't worry if you can't get a good shot of a particular pokemon because you'll come back to each level many times as you get more more items to use as bait. One great shot is all it takes to make a trip worth-while, so concentrate, point and shoot!

Shh! It's naptime: You may or may not recognize the belly of this round and lazy pokemon-even if you do, you won't be able to get a picture of it unless you can disturb the peaceful afternoon snooze it's enjoying amidst the flowers. Pokemon food won't do it, but something else might...(*hint hint*music*hint hint*)

Level 2: Tunnel Vision
We hope you enjoyed the sunshine while you were on the beach, because the next quest is going to be dark and spooky. The 01 will taake you through a defunct underground powerplant crawling with eerie creatures, many which are electric-type pokemon. It seems natural to see Electrode and Electabuzz near an old powerplant, but it makes us wonder if the electricity might be turned back on somehow...

Ka-Blamo!:Electrode get angry if you pelt them with pokemon food-often they get so mad they self-destruct. Their explosions can trigger interesting events, so don't be afraid to set them off.
Purple Haze: There a couple of suspicious purple glows floating around, and your handy view identifier won't be able to identify them. Snap some shots anyway-you never know what might develop

Level 3: Hot, Cross Pokemon
The area around the volcano is practically erupting with pokemon, and it's up to you to brave the molten pathway and catalogue them all! If you've already received some Pester Balls, try hurling one into every crater you see-you never know what might appear if you make a perfect shot. The unpredictable fire-type pokemon that make their home here are often temperamental, so be careful which ones you antagonize.

Whoa, there Rapidash!: A galloping Rpidash is good enough for the pokemon report, but the professor will be extra-pleased if you manage to catch one rearing up and neighing. Toss some food in the Rapidash's path to get it up on its hind legs.
The more the merrier: Spotting a Charmander is easy on this level, but luring a bunch of them together for a group shot is tougher. Toss some food to the pair near the Moltres egg and they'll call their buddies. After that, it's a waiting game.

Level 4: Keep Your Hands in the Boat!
Don't just sit there and admire the Zero-One's pontoons - there's a river to explore! The river's edge is full of Pokemon, but coaxing them out of hiding will require all the tricks in your bag. Throw Pokemon Food and Pester Balls all over the landscape and frequently toot your Pokeflute to try to scare up a Pokemon hoedown. Watch the water too, since a piece of food just might startle a water-type pokemon to the surface.

Ouch!: It's definitely not nice to abuse wildlife, but you'll never get a high point total on your Psyduck picture unless you knock it out. It'll leap quickly out of the water, so you'll have to be fast.
The Old Fishing Hole: With so much aquatic life jumping, it's a wonder there aren't more fishermen. The Slowpoke on the bank doesn't seem to have anything better to do. If you can coax it to a hot spot, it might go bobbing for Shellder.

Level 5: Spelunking for Pokemon
My, my, that Zero-One is a versatile machine! Sporting jet-thrusters that allow for smooth hovering, your trusty vehicle now takes you deep into the caverns of Pokemon Island. The dark rock formationsare ominous but pretty, so don't hesitate to take a few scenery pix if something catches your eye. You'll find all sorts of pokemon that shun the light as you meander through the ancient caves, so keep snapping!

That's not right...: It seems a little odd to see that three Bulbasaur have wandered into the cave from outside - normally they don't stray very far from grassy areas. It's up to you to find out what's up!
Get Cracking on the Egg: There's a rock-hard egg near the exit, and no amount of pelting with food or Pester Balls will coax it open. the two Jynx might be able to work a little magic, but they seem to be cataconic. Maybe some wake-me-up music is in order.

Level6: Ride the Valley Rapids
This river is a lot less tame than the pleasure cruise earlier in the game, so you'll need to shoot fast if you hope to snap decent shots as you roar through white water. Pokemon thrive in the valley, from rock-types clinging to the cliff walls to hte water types that leap up whenever you throw pokemon Food into the river. Get a good grip on the Zero-One and try to stay focused as you try to tame the rapids!

Heeere Mankey!: There's a button toward the end of the level that you must open up a new path, but there's no pokemon around to press it for you. The Mankey on top of the nearby hill is your best bet, but since it's out of range, you'll have trouble luring it to shore. There's gotta be a way...
Karp! Karp! Karp!: This Magikarp was first spotted jumping out of the water at the first bend of the river. A few Pester Balls knocked it toward a Mankey, who punched it over here. One more direct hit and who knows what might happen to it?
