A-7 Dawn Patrol
Carrier flight operations can run 24 hours a day, making life for the men who work below deck feel as if the days just run together in a cycle of work, eat, sleep, and do it again. If you could really sleep well, and really enjoy a meal, maybe it wouldn't seem so bad, but that is rarely the case, especially if your berthing compartment is located directly below the flightdeck, and you have aircraft landing and taking off ten feet over your head. If your work is on the flightdeck, you see the sunrises and sunsets at sea, and have fresh air to breath, at least when the aircraft engines are not running. This photo was taken on the waist catapults (at the middle of the ship, as opposed to the bow cats at the front) which is why the Cat Officer is crouching very low. The waist cats are tight for space, and the wings of aircraft launching pass over your head at that place. I kept pretty darn low myself.
