Asia     (1982)

Name of musicianInstruments played and other info
Geoff DownesKeyboards and vocals
Steve HoweGuitars and vocals
Carl PalmerDrums and percussion
John WettonLead vocals and bass guitar

One of the cds which initially sparked my interest in the "art-rock" group "Asia." This is an intensely strong debut album. The cover artwork by Roger Dean of the turquoise dragon rising up from the sea is absolutely extraordinary! Every single song on this cd is superb! It is certainly one of the most satisfying albums created by the original members, see Asia index page. Drawbacks, include: the exclusion of the lyrics from the cd booklet. I have decided to borrow the graphic image until I have created my own at a later date!

Track No.Song TitleTrack TimeCommnents
1.HEAT OF THE MOMENT3:50a unique pop-oriented track which is probably the least impressive track on this album.
2.ONLY TIME WILL TELL4:44This is one of Asia's finest songs, owing greatly to the influence of the band members former groups!
3.SOLE SURVIVOR4:48Harder rocking than most of the other tracks, this song represents an evolved form of what Drama should have sounded like!
4.ONE STEP CLOSER4:16Beginning with the interesting Steve Howe guitar work, this song represents a deviation from many of the other songs on this album!
5.TIME AGAIN4:45Another one of Asia's finest songs, definitely reminiscent of Close To The Edge in intensity!
6.WILDEST DREAMS5:10One of my favorite Asia tracks, dealing with war and intolerance, containing one of my favorite lines, "... they've recommended euthanasia for nonconformers anywhere..."
7.WITHOUT YOU5:04Another superb track which tells us that once again, it is time to revisit those Topographic oceans; this also happens to be my favorite track from this album!
8.CUTTING IT FINE5:35I like the introductory part to this piece immensely, the guitar work is exceptional!
9.HERE COMES THE FEELING5:42A great integration of the band's expertise, it is the precursor to the melodic beauty of Alpha.
