Tale #26 |
Read your KLTV story with some interest...I was employed there from 1981-1994, and worked with people you probably knew - Glen Rich and Hudson Collins to name a couple of names. Before I left 7 for Dallas in 1994, I managed to win 5 Best Newscast in Texas awards for the station as executive producer. I - er - also managed to put an uncensored copy of the film "California Split" with George Segal on the air...kind of by accident...sort of...anyway, you can imagine the consternation that was created when Segal said the "f" word several times...and of course, it's a Saturday night, KTRE in Lufkin is riding our signal... Oh, well...TV is great, ain't it? Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention I also worked with the inimitable Bob Lovelady. And here's the final parting shot... As far as I know...I am the only KLTV employee whose father ever flew out of that hangar on Loop 323 and the Old Kilgore Highway. Yep...dad spent an anxious evening over that place once, burning off fuel for a potentially hazardous after dark landing on the strip that used to run diagonally out past where the tower now stands in the station backyard. I swear, this is it...but I just saw the picture on your web site with the old GE camera...as far as I know, that same camera is still on display in the KTLV lobby, sans pedestal, of course. Me, I have a couple of tubes and the RCA logo off of the old 16mm film chain... |
