1st Series 2nd Series 3rd Series The Third Series Opening Titles A masked scientist in a laboratory accidentally drops a test tube during an experiment... The same scientist travels all over the world attending academic conferences... He begins to feel ill and suddenly collapses in the street... Greg is away trying to rebuild society. Jenny is missing him and whining a lot. Charles has set up a primitive telephone link to some neighbours who keep them informed of local news. The first
half of the series follows a fairly basic formula: Charles and Jenny hear that Greg is nearby; they go to find him; they are too late - he's moved on. Various adventures are had on the way. This formula produces many a memorable episode and cements the characters in to the roles that we know and love: Charles lectures the world on how to live; Jenny constantly whines and shows herself not only to be a 'loose canon' (shooting an innocent man) but as a silly cow to boot (throwing the gun to
Charles and knocking him unconscious). After a brief Lord of the Flies scenario, they end up trying to save some neighbouring community from Brod the wild-man who believes in hunt or be hunted. Charles huffs and puffs, Jenny offers him her body, but the sheperd is the one who puts an arrow in his back and saves everybody. After being chased by a pack of wild dogs, Charles' fantasy about setting up trade links continues to cause all sorts of trouble. John and Lizzie find their
mother. Our heroes join up with Frank - a man who's destiny is ticking away, and we move in to the second theme of the series - the quest for power. Greg bids an heroic farewell by murdering a gang of thugs using biological warfare. However his spirit lives on in the form of currency, and the last hope for civilization as we know (and perhaps loath) it. As the group moves north, we discover that for the first time in history the Scots have had it easy compared to the rest of us. There follows a monumental battle riddled with issues of ecology, nationalism, and of course, power. We end the series with an affirmation of the triumph of the modern industrial age.
