Hi Everyone,

Hope all of you had a fun Christmas and New Years. We sure did! Spent way too much money as usual too. Now it's time once again the year in retrospect. This last year has seen some ups and some downs for collectors. The WB Stores have added much more variety to the items they carry. This has been great for those of us who live close to one. However the downside to this is that items have disappeared from many stores. The biggest two makers, Matrix(Trevco) and Applause, seem to have almost stopped producing holiday items for the regular stores. This was the worst seasonal selection since the early 90's. We found less than 30 items out of all the stores we went to in December-and boy did we go to a lot! Maybe this year will see a more even distribution. Goebel is forging the way with lots of new porcelain items. These show up in collectibles stores which should help boost interest with the higher end collectors. For the casual collector there isn't much though. This is a segment that WB should target heavily but has really ignored the last couple of years. Hopefully this year will see a move away from the high profit margin only corporate mentality and back towards the smaller collectibles and household items market. It would be nice to walk into Walmarts and see some Looney items again! Beanies are also on their way out. Look for WB to cut these back drastically. I was told to expect smaller numbers of them to be made and that we will see fewer individual ones. Probably only holidays and special issues. This should make them more collectible though-if they stick to this plan. Ty is already trying to back out of their end of the line announcement. If they do the rest of the beanie market will probably follow suit and keep producing them.

Here's looking forward to a great year of collecting!

Richard & Gwen

Seen in Stores

  • The WB Store is having a 40% off all sale items sale. This can be up to 70% off on some items! Check it out to get some good deals. Just click on the Daffy Days banner to go directly to it. URL: http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=vzTUpunnJhY&offerid=11941&type=3&subid=0
  • The WB Stores also have a new Tweety Valentines Beanie. Dressed as an angel and holding a red heart with "You're My Angel" on it. $7
  • C. Jere has several large metal wall sculptures on their site. Each is hand made from steel. Bugs, Sam, Wile E. and others. Just keep clicking on Go To Next Item to see them all. URL: http://www.secretcove.com/c73.htm
  • Dori Lee Collectibles has an entire line of pizza items. Plates, mugs, cutter, mitts and a serving rack/stone! If anyone gets the pizza stone let me know what you think of it-we just bought a plain one a few months ago so I can't just rush out and get another :). URL: http://toyhaven.com/ushop/index.cgi?ID=E5KEDD&task=show&cat=Looney+Tunes
  • AnimationShopper.com has some interesting items. The foam motion clocks from a few years ago, foam wallhangings, bendies, plushes and talking toys. The clocks are nice for kids rooms. URL: http://www.animationshopper.com/
  • TrademarkCollection.com has several new and older items in. A talking Tweety/Sylvester cookie jar, ornaments and Bugs and Sylvester Midwest Limoge Boxes. URL: http://www.trademarkcollection.com/search.asp?coll_id=45
  • If a mall near you has a San Francisco Music Box Store drop by and check them out. The one in Thousand Oaks has 5 musical snowglobes and several smaller items. Very nicely done too. I couldn't find any markings on them but they were packaged like Midwest of Cannon Falls items.

Looney News

  • Raymondscott.com now has a complete list of the Looney Tunes cartoons that used his music along with the song titles. He did some of the most catchy songs in them including Powerhouse-the music that always plays when the complicated traps are running. You can also buy some of his CD's directly from them. URL: http://raymondscott.com/WB.html
  • Bradford Exchange has Tweety ornaments for sale. These came out 3-4 months ago but they haven't had any info on them on their website. They are 3 cages with Tweety decorating a tree, putting a star on a tree and writing his wish list. Around 4" tall. $29.97 plus $3.99 shipping(not bad at all from these guys). If you want to order them just mail them a letter with order number 68601-H28511 Tweet Heirloom Classics Ornaments. The ad says no money required you will be billed. It looks like this will be a series as they just added a bit of info to their site saying that this is the first set. Their address is:
    The Bradford Exchange
    9303 Milwaukee Ave.
    Niles, Illinois 60714
  • There are some personalized clocks for sale throught the mail also. These were almost twice the price a few months ago. They have Bugs, Tweety, Tweety & Sylvester and Taz in 8.5" white frame round wall clocks. You get one 12 letter name on each that goes into the phrase already on the clock. They are $7.95 each plus $3 s&h. Too much detail on these to type out so if anyone didn't get the ad in their Sunday paper and wants it I can email it to you.
  • Radko collectors should check out all the local WB stores that they can. There are some good deals on older ornaments in stock. Bugs & Taz Stocking set, Tweety & Sylvester Stocking set, Bugs Sprite, Sylvester Sprite, Tweety Faberge Egg, and the Trio Tree Topper have been half price in all the ones we visited. I've also seen several others popping up on ebay so most of them are probably on sale in other stores.
