We had a great 3 day weekend. Derek and I and Toey and New took a train up to
Kanchanobori (Bridge over the river Kwai). We were either going to take a party boat
with a huge sound system, or rent motorcycles. We ended up choosing some 200cc
Yamaha dirt bikes and packing up with the girls and heading further up in the
providence. We got to Erawan falls, a pretty touristy spot, just before it
closed. The falls are not so big but they have all these levels where the water
flows from one to the next. We got some sunset photos, and then found a place to
crash. The next
morning we checked out a huge James Bond style dam creating a huge lake, maybe as big as
Bangkok. It's actually the first lake I've seen in Thailand. After that we
made our way on dirt roads to some waterfalls about an hour away. Having the
dirt bikes was great. We were in some rural areas--with papaya and banana
farming. On the way home took a little detour into a farmers field and drove up to the edge of a mountain shaped like devils tower. Cruising through the tractor paths was a lot of fun--I could see myself getting one of those bikes. We got to the train station on time, and made are way back home. We got off at Salaya, just before Bangkok, however to see the sunset at a large park with a huge Buddha statue. We caught another sunset, and a monk ceremony. We caught a cab home, and did some major room cleaning. |

A bridge over the River Kwai near Erawan Falls. The area is very hilly like this. Just up this river is a dam, with a nice lake behind it.
New and Toey at Hueykamin Waterfalls. There are about 8 levels.
Sitting amongst the falls. They are about an hour from Erawan on a rough dirt road. This is one of the levels.
This van had crashed somehow. It was weird because everyone left their bags in it. We figured they left their stuff because they are scared of spirits. I had to take advantage of this photo op.
A Thai style country home. They are usually on stilts, big open air living rooms. Toilets are usually away from the house. Many capture rain from the roof in huge urns. |
