May 9th 2002

Well, I've been back a month now, guess I lied about updating the site as soon as anything happened. Been busy since I got home but have been settled back in the old ways for a while now, which includes working coz I managed to get a job pretty quick. Now saving up for the next step - Uni!

To cut a long story short, I had a brilliant time never to be forgotten. I'm hoping to put snippets of my diary on the site sometime soon, so keep an eye out.

I can now identify more fish than I knew existed! Best sightings include a Green turtle (underwater), Dolphins (from a Malagasy fishing boat), rays (on three different occasions), and some VERY huge fish (over 1m long!)

Photos should also be appearing soon - but not all 10 films worth, just the best!

The total cost of the expedition turned out to be £6084!!!

The Grand Total of the money I raised was £4172.74.  A shortfall of just £1911.26 - I'm very thankful for my savings a result!

I have finished my BTEC report and its been sent off, I am now waiting the result with nervous anticipation! You'll find my report now posted in the BTEC section of this site.

When I got home I was greeted with a cheque for £52.49 from Fundraising Direct for the purchases people made from the catalogues I distributed.

I've received some sponsorship! I would like to thank The Katy Choules Memorial Trust for helping me out with a grant of £75. It is much appreciated!

Total money raised has now reached £3540.25

Total money spent is £5633.44

30 days until I go! Departure date is now officially Wed 9th Jan 2002

Total money raised now is £2715.25

Total money spent now is £5511.16 (oops)

My expedition has changed slightly - I am one of 12 people who have been chosen to go on a new expedition to investigate a new location for a second Madagascar Marine project. This is going to be a tougher expedition than the one I was originally on, but will be well worth it as we will be the first people to camp on this beach and SCUBA dive in the sea here. It is an important expedition for Frontier as it could be the beginning of a new project to research and conserve more of the coral reefs of Madagascar.

November 12th 2001

I have cancelled my place on the Tanzania savanna expedition.  I am no longer able to go due to underestimating the cost and consequently having difficulties raising enough money to do both expeditions.  I am still going to Madagascar and the cost for just these three months will be over £5000, which I originally guessed would be the total for six months.  therefore I am still fundraising and looking for sponsorship to enable me to go!

I have received my preliminary departure date - Wednesday 9th January 2002.  The expedition will finish on March 20th 2002

Total money raised so far has reached £2191.25

I am now a qualified PADI Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver!
