Bishop Museum

Well, the Bishop Museum is a museum dedicated to Hawaiian culure and artifacts. It has many programs for children and a Planetarium. It has a 3 story museum filled with many things from Hawaiian history.

This is a royal cape and some other royal wear for war I believe They are all made of feathers.

This is hard to see but it is a room filled with "Kahili" they are these poles with decorative feathers on the top. They are for royalty and would be held up anytime a royal member was out in oublic. Theya are all different and so you would be able to tell who is comming by which "Kahili" is being held up.

More "Kahili" being shown close up. Sorry my photo's are bad. There again it is due to my camera and the lighting.

Hawaiian Quilt.

Ricky made a moon vehicle. The object here is to build your own moon vehicle , motors and all, and take it over to the moon scape area and plug it in and run it around the moon. It was a neet experience for ricky and me to do together.

One of the other things we did here was we learned about "hokule'a" which is a canoe sails and all that was built by a Hawaiian who wanted to sail it to Tahiti, by using only the start and weather as his guide. Just like the first people who came to the islands of Hawaii did, way back years and years ago. It was very interesting and educational. You can find many things about the "Hokule'a" and its several voyages, by searching the internet. It has been in National Geographic, as well as many other publications.
