Sea Life Park & The Dolphins

There is this great big tank, at Sea Life Park and you can walk down into a tunnel and see all sorts of creatures. This is a scuba diver, she is feeding the sting rays. it was cool to watch her interact with the rays.

We were abke to feed these huge Sea Turtles, with lettuce. You are just supposed to toss it in the water and they will come and get it. They sure do. They come right over to eat it.

These are Monk Seals. They were rescued after beaching themselves. They were malnurished. (sorry, cant spell) and dehydrated. It turned out that their bellies were full of plastic, that they had eaten. Trash that people had thrown into the ocean. After haveing operations to have these things removed they ate and thrived. Abd may someday be returned to the sea.

Sea lions baskng in the sun and playing around. You can also feed them, by throwing fish into the water. Although the park only sells so much food, because they don't want them to be eating too much.

This is from a Sea Lion show. It was cute.

The 2 pictures above are from the Dolphin Show. This is where we also got to go into the water and swim with the Dolphins. More about that at the bottom of the page. The picture to the right/top I took to show the view. And this picture to the left is an underwater picture of the same area.

.

These 2 pictures are NOT computer generated. We actuall had the opportunity to get into the water and swim with the dolphins. This Dolphin that Ricky & I are hugging seperately is a female. Weighing somewhere aroung 350 pounds and she is 30 years old. She is very gentle and happy as you can tell. The best way to explain how she feels is to say that she feels like a great big OLIVE. She is not slimy, nor slippery in any way.

This is a picture of all of us in the group, that went to swim wotht hese Dolphins. Left is our friend Natsko, then a girl we dont know from Noth Dakota, then the trainer, then my brother Gregg, then Me, then Ricky. The Dolphin jumping above us is actuall what they call a "Walphin". Evidently, Years ago, the park used to open the gates and let the dolphins and the killer whales swim together at night time. And what happened was a whale & a dolphin mated. They no longer keep them together anymore. Males and females are kept seperately in the evenings. This "Walphin" the only one known at this time is 15 years old. This "Walphin" also along with the Dolphin also towed each of us back to the step by letting each of us seperately hold its dorsal fin, (the one on the top) It was great, and I have much more respect for these animals then I ever did before. They are very beautiful creatures.
