Dubbed as a "living museum", Charleston's rich history and remarkable preservation has made the city a must-see for those visiting the Lowcountry.  Scheduling a daytrip to Charleston is easy.  The city is located on a peninsula, 21 miles north of Kiawah.  It will take you approximately 40 minutes to drive there, but the beautiful marsh and river views along Maybank Highway are well worth it.

Along the way you will pass Cappy's seafood restaurant, a great place to take the family and enjoy a view of the river from the deck.  It's one of our family's favorites.

A convenient place to start your sight-seeing is at the Market and the area surrounding Charleston Place Hotel.  More than just a hotel, Charleston Place serves as a "hub" of shopping and dining activity.

The nearby Market is a collection of various vendors, with offerings from straw grass baskets to jewelry.  On either side of the Market you will find quaint restaurants and cafes that really come alive at night.  Live music can be heard streaming out of nearly every restaurant.  A favorite of the locals is Cat Daddy's, an outside piano bar in the heart of the Market.

If it is your first time visiting the city, you may want to take a guided carriage ride through the historic district.  These guides are extremely knowledgeable and will point out some of the city's most fascinating landmarks.  Other popular downtown tours include a garden walk, ghost walk, and hidden pub tour.  Be sure to make your way down to Waterfront Park, an award-winning park that stretches along the picturesque Charleston Harbor.  For more information about visiting Charleston, stop by the Villa Front Desk for brochures and maps.
