Kiawah is a barrier island located 21 miles south of historic Charleston, SC.
The name, pronounced kee-a-wah, is derived from an ancient Indian tribe that first called the island home.

Famous for it's championship golf courses, the Pete Dye designed Ocean Course earned the distinction of hosting the 1991 Ryder Cup matches between the U.S. and Europe.  Often called the "War by the Shore", the dramatic conclusion to these seaside matches is emblazoned in the minds of many a golf fan.  Other island courses include designs by Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, and Clyde Johnston.

The island was developed with utmost respect to it's delicate and diverse ecosystem.  Over 20 miles of bicycle and jogging trails wind their way through the island's semitropical forests and marsh land.  Kiawah is home to over 193 species of birds, which can be enjoyed on one of the Resort's many organized nature tours.

Kiawah's unique natural setting, combined with island activities, is sure to please everyone in the family. Organized activities include teen dances, pool parties, pick-up soccer games, volleyball, family movies and cookouts, live music, nature tours, marsh and ocean kayaking, and a wonderful program for young children called Kamp Kiawah.

So what are you waiting for?  Find out for yourself why people return year after year to this island paradise.
