Borneo and Brunei: A Bevy of Jungles and the Sultan's Playland

My friend Annette from Newfoundland, wondering what on earth this thingy is . . . The Borneo of old English literary works has changed a bit, but it is still a fascinating part of the world. This huge island, shared by three nations, has pristine beaches, dense jungles, and intimidating mountains. Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah province, is not the most memorable town, but is a good base from which to explore the world's second largest island. While you're there, you've got to visit Brunei. It's only a 30 minute flight from K.K. and is worth the trip. If you've never seen the decadence of the Middle Eastern oil kingdoms, this is the closest you'll get. You'll gasp at some the world's largest, unused, and useless buildings!
