Reunion is a quite young volcanic island and so its coral reef encircles only a little part of the island in the West coast. Here you will find wonderful beaches and lagoons. I suggest you to try these beaches:

Beaches for snorkelling and relax in the lagoons, at the harbour of the coral reef (beware of sea ursine):

Hermitage lagoon and reef

Hermitage, Toboggan beach

Lagoon

Trou d'Eau

Sunset in the lagoon

Hermitage les Bains,
La Saline les Bains, Le Trou d'Eau, a quiet beach with a lot of trees and shadow on the back.
St Leu in front of the Apollonia Hotel, one of the finest in the lagoons, but beware of sea

Beaches without coral reef.

Grand Anse

Warning, it may be quite dangerous to take your bath because of the fierce flows:

Bucan Canot, I think the best beach in the island. A lot of magnificent fish.
St Gilles les Bains and Pierres Noires.
St Leu, a great beach for surfing.
Etang Salé les Bains beach with its black volcanic sand.
La Grande Anse, wonderful beach with a lot of trees on the back, a great place for picnic, but interdiction of bathing for real drowning danger because of the flows. You can only take your bath in a little sea pool.

Open sea.  I don't suggest to take your bath there! The many graves of drowned people around there serve you as a reminder.
