One of our best trips was in Azores archipelago with wonderful whale watching cruises in Pico (spotted a lot of sperm whales). We were two times in Azores and we visited Sao Miguel, Terceira, Fajal and Pico and Flores. I cannot tell you what is the beautiful one, all these isles are superb, everyone with its particularity. I suggest you to take a round trip ticket with the Azorean flight company SATA, with this ticket you can do a round journey with three stops. All the isles are very green and wooden with a luxuriant vegetation, there is everywhere an incredible Hortensia blooming almost all around the year. The climate is subtropical with limited thermal excursions, also in the middle of the summer the temperature is very agreeable, the rains are frequent but of short duration, it's a little bit like in Ireland, but much milder. The sea water temperature is perfect to take baths, where the oceanic wave allows you to swim, but it is not what tourists commonly search for bathing, so for me is much more interesting. Because of ocean swell rarely you can swim on the beaches and so Azoreans use the wonderful natural swimming pools (sea inlets surrounded with natural lava streams ingeniously adapted to sea baths). The food is excellent ant everything is quite cheap, you'll pay about 15 US$ for a complete dinner and 60 for a room. Every isle has its own airport. I suggest you to hire a car (I have do so in every isle), if you have a SATA ticket you can have a special fare with unlimited mileage that's much more cheap.
