Texel is a little island of the Waddeneilanden (isles of Wadden), Netherlands. All this area was once part of the mainland, before a great inundation broke the coast dune, just where Texel is now, and kept these islands surrounded by the northern sea. Texel is really a birdwatching paradise, almost entirely run as an ornithological reserve and a natural park, here you can see an enormous quantity of sea birds and waders, the flights of wild gooses obscure the sky and the fields. I have spotted a lot of the Spoonbills (Platalea leucorodia), Shelducks (Tadorna tadorna), Storks (Ciconia ciconia), Curlews (Numenius arquata), Godwits (Limosa limosa) and much more. The natural environment is that of the oceanic sand dune line with vast sand beaches, and is really well preserved. Two good addresses are:
