Rick spreads the tar on the wall ... |
... and sets a styrofoam panel into it. |
By the end of the day, Rick had tarred most of three sides and Martha had set 60 of the two foot wide panels. |
The next morning brought a new bucket of tar and the last few panels were placed on the west wall where there is a double walkout door and a wine cellar. |
A truckload of no 2 stone arrived and was placed around the footing. Drainage pipe was placed on that and ... |
... a trench was dug so that the pipe could reach the hedgerow and run downhill. |
More stone is placed on the drainage pipe and the stone is then covered with building paper to keep dirt from clogging the drainage system. |
Gould showed up to put in the water line from the well and the electrical line to the submersible pump. |
The foundation was inspected prior to backfilling to ensure that it was tarred and insulated and that the drainage tile was installed properly. The backfilling is necessary as the excavator must get close to the walls in order to reach over and lift the 36 ft 8WF31 steel beams into place across the cellar. At about the same time, the electrical inspection was completed and faxed to NYSEG. On 15 July, the NYSEG foreman stopped in to check things over and said that the crew would be back the next day to install the two transformers and set the meter. Electricity, soon come. And it did. |
Wayne Underwood backfilled the foundation and set the beams on 18 July 99. |
