Pioneer days live on in Frontierland! Beneath the peaks of Big Thunder Mountain, banjo pickers, craftspeople, farm animals, and boatmen recreate the hardy atmosphere of the American wilderness and the spirit of those who made it their home.
Here you paddle your way around the Rivers of America with a wilderness guide.
I think that of all the boats that circle the Rivers of America, these offer the most fun. They are real canoes, and they are not on tracks.
Fantasmic!:
This is, without a doubt, the best Disney extravaganza yet. It's the tale of good vs. evil, and it's up to Mickey to overcome some Disney villains that try to disrupt Mickey's fantasy. The villains that appear are: Ursula the Sea Witch from The Little Mermaid, The Witch from Snow White, and finally the evil Maleficent, who turns into a 50 foot tall, fire-breathing dragon from Sleeping Beauty.
The villains turn Mickey's dreams into nightmares and he must overcome them with his own powers of goodness. Some of Mickey's friends make appearances in FANTASMIC!, the Columbia sailing ship parades through the show with the cast of Peter Pan, you can see some Disney couples like Beauty and The Beast, Cinderella and her Prince, Snow White and her Prince, etc. dancing. Also The Mark Twain riverboat brings along a host of favorite Disney characters. But the most impressive thing here is how they project film onto these giant mist screens, it's very cool!.
Frontierland Shooting Arcade:
The arcade is set in an 1850's town in the Southwest Terrytory. Here you shoot up boothill, a town complete with bank, jail, hootel, and stables. Hit the jail target and the cell door opens, freeing the prisoners. When you hit the Boothill sign causes it to read "For Sale". Also when you hit the moving shovel, a skeleton pops out of a grave.
Golden Horseshoe Stage:
A half an hour show at the Golden Horseshoe Saloon stars Miss Lily and Sam the Bartender. Miss Lily is in love with Sam, but she won't admit it. And Sam is in love with Lily too. She belts out a few fine songs, and her troupe of three shines brightest in the cancan number. There's a dance competition between Sam's boys and Lily's girls, and some audience-participation sequences.
Mark Twain Riverboat:
A stately steam-powered stern-wheeler gently cruises the waters of the Rivers of America. It's one of the original Disneyland attractions. It passes by River Belle Terrace, the Royal Street Veranda, the docks for the Tom Sawyer Island Rafts, and piney Critter Country, moose, elk, and a burning cabin.
Mike Fink Keelboats:
Cruise Southern-style through the backwoods waterways of the Rivers of America.
Rafts to Tom Sawyer Island:
It's a short trip across the river to fun with balancing rocks, secret caves and a barrel bridge.
Sailing Ship Columbia:
A replica of the first American sailing ship to circle the globe navigates the Rivers of America. It only operates when the Mark Twain is not in service. It doesn't sail after dark.
