- KIKADIRYAI MOLAS WORKSHOP: This is an organization of Kuna women who decided to meet the problems that confront them through the art that they have mastered, which is the hand-stitching of the traditional "morra kuna" known as the "MOLA" to the rest of the world. The Mola is one of the deepest expressions of the Kuna culture, and is currently being produced in ten communities in Kuna territory. The workshop was organized as a consequence of the social crisis in Panama that has worsened in the last several years, hitting the indigenous communities hard. The impact has being felt particularly strongly by women, whose work has traditionally been de-valued and marginalized. This art work, which is commercialized by the indigenous people and non-indigenous people alike has exploited Kuna women by selling their intricate and beautiful work at extremely low prices. This workshop is working to combat this reality by promoting the selling of molas at fair prices.
