BODRUM
Bodrum is
a lively resort a short dolmus ride from Gumbet.
There are
many shops and a large market area as you head down to the harbour
from the dolmus station. On Wednesday's and Friday's there is
also a large market behind the dolmus station.
Down near
the harbour there are also numerous nice restaurants, many with
lovely views over the harbour.
The
main attraction in Bodrum is the Castle of St. Peter. This
castle houses an interesting maritime museum. In July 1997
it was 500,000 lira for entrance plus an extra 200,000 lira
for some of the sites.

One of the
most interesting exhibits is the 'Glass Boat'. There is the remains
of the boat as well as a large exhibition of it's cargo including
many glass objects, some in suprisingly good condition.
At
the entrance of the castle is a large exhibition (included
in entrance price) of amphur's, the pots used to hold goods
on the ships including wine, olives and spices.

The torture
chamber, however, was extremely disappointing and not worth the
climb up hundreds of stairs.
The castle
is well worth a visit for the interesting exhibitions and in it's
own right.
