Dominica

Known as the Nature Island of the Caribbean, Dominica is one of the world’s great eco-tourism destinations. The island is 290 square miles with seemingly endless forested mountains rising as high as 4,747 feet (Morne Diablotin). Abundant rainfall in the interior of the island has created lush, tropical rainforests with large clear rivers, freshwater lakes, and numerous waterfalls. Abundant plant and animal life can be viewed on the numerous trails into these exotic forests. On some trails you will get the opportunity to observe Sisserou and Jaco Parrots in their native habitat.

Continued volcanic activity in Dominica has created the second largest boiling lake in the world and numerous hot springs where you can take a relaxing soak on the trail. One area of these hot springs (Champagne) you can snorkel through under sea water! The dramatic landscape of Dominica continues offshore to underwater worlds that make Dominica one of the world’s great diving locations. Whales and dolphins can also be seen passing by in the warm, clear water.

Dominica is still predominantly an agricultural country with bananas as the main export crop. Small agricultural villages and the Carib Indian Reserve are places where you can meet the people of Dominica. They are known for their natural friendliness and are eager to share their experiences with you and hear about life in your corner of the world. A trip to Dominica will be an experience you will remember for a lifetime!
