He's Cefiro's supreme Magic Leading Master, and his mission is to teach magic to the qualified ones. He looks like a boy, actually, he is 745 years old.
Being the guru of Cefiro, he taught magic powers to the most qualified people like Zagato, Alcyone, the only Mahou Kenshi in Cephiro - Lantis, and specially, the three Magic Knights.
Clef was the one who designed Zagato and Lantis as Princess Emerauld's guardians. But he was sent to the Forest of Spirits to await for the Magic Knights. So, he took Presea to the Forest of Silence and gave her the seijyuu Mokona. After giving armour and magic to the Magic Knights, he was turned into stone by Zagato's magic. But he can help the three girls with Mokona's help. Another help that Clef gave to the girls are from his shokan seijyuu Griphon and Fuyura.
A difference between the Anime and Manga, Clef is more calm and patient (more than on the manga). In the Manga, he is really short-tempered.

Fuyura is a big flying fish who is very friendly and appeared to help the girls twice (ep. 1 and 21), when they were falling down from the sky, after being summoned.
The Griphon is very friendly too, but he is faster than Fuyura. He appeared once to help the Magic Knights (ep. 1 to 2). He helped the girls to get rid of Alcyone's Ice Magic with his fast movements, but disappeared when they reached the Forest of Silence.
