1997 Christmas Dinner ShowDuring December, Akina performed at 11 hotel dinner shows.
The holiday schedule included appearances at the New Otani Hakata (Fukuoka) on December 18th, and New Otani Tokyo on December 26th. With all tickets sold, the dinner shows were a success.
New Record CompanyHer contract with Universal Victor having expired at the end of November, Akina changed her record company from Universal Victor to Gauss Entertainment. Gauss Entertainment is a subsidiary of DaiichiKosho Co, Ltd., which is known for karaoke.
1998 CalendarNow here is a must have collectible for any true Akina fan—Akina's 1998 wall calendar (size B2, 7 pages). The item number is CL-36; price ¥2,000.
MaidaAkina has produced a line of skin-care cosmetics named "Maida." The set, available by mail order, costs ¥12,800 and consists of slimming sun oil, toning lotion, and slimming bath oil. The associated ad campaign has been reported to be worth ¥100,000,000. In late June 1997, following the concert tour, Akina traveled to Malaysia where she filmed the commercial for television.
Update: Maida skin-care products have not sold well and production has been halted. The television commercial has also been cancelled until further notice.
Concert VideoThe official concert video entitled "Nakamori Akina Live 97 - Felicidad" went on sale September 22, 1997. The video features the final concert of the tour which was held June 21, 1997 at the Tokyo International Forum before a capacity audience of 5,000 people. The video includes 26 songs and has a running time of approximately 97 minutes. For more information, please refer to the Videos page.
1997 Concert Tour - "Felicidad"Akina's 1997 concert tour ran from May 3 through June 21. Comprised of sixteen shows in fourteen cities, it was her first nation-wide tour in nine years. The tour, produced by Akina, was a success--all sixteen shows were sold out for a combined attendance of approximately 50,000.
The concert was divided into three parts, the first consisting of various ballads. The latest album "Shaker" was featured in the second part. The concert concluded with a medley of nine of Akina's most popular hits. The program was as follows:
