March

the third month of the Gregorian calendar, derives it's name from the Roman God Mars. During the month of March, the Great Solar Wheel is turned to the Vernal or Spring Equinox, which falls around March 21 or 22. It was a sacred time in a great many world cultures, and is celebrated as one of the four Lesser Sabbats each year by Wiccans and modern Witches throughout the world.

March 1

The sacred fire of the Temple of Vesta/Hestia was rekindled by the Vestal Virgins on this day, which in ancient Roman days marked the beginning of the new year.

The second house is the house of values and personal resources (i.e. money)  I'll be writing more on that later.

March 4

Using as inspiration the annual three-day long ritual called the Anthesteria   held on this date in ancient Greece to honor the Goddess Hecate, it seemed appropriate to create this ritual day.  Consider it a mental spring cleaning.  A time to make decisions and chose your path.  Given that this date falls so shortly after the start of my second house, I could decide to use the day to make decisions on how to spend or invest my money

March 12

Lunar Eclipses always have to do with relationships.  Check and see where this eclipse falls in your natal chart and in your solar return chart and see if there are any appropriate spells to work.  Some of the most powerful spells I've ever worked were centered around lunar eclipses.

March 13

The thirteenth day of the third month is considered to be the luckiest day of the year for Witches (especially if it falls on a Friday).  This is a day to do something fun and "witchy".

March 18

Sheelah's Day, an annual festival to honor the fertility Goddess known as Sheela-na-gig was held on this date in ancient Ireland.  This day is a great one for the more passionate side of romance.

The beginning of the Celtic Tree month of Alder/Fearn

March 19

The biggest social event in ancient Greece, the Lesser Panathenaea, was held annually this day to celebrate the birth of the Goddess Athene   The five-day Spring competition featured events in athletics, music, poetry, and satire. Crowns of olive branches and flasks of olive oil were given to the winners of each event.

March 20

The Spring or Vernal Equinox occurs on or about this date, and is celebrated by Wiccans and Witches throughout the world. In the Green Rose tradition this day is sacred to Airmed

March 23

The Norse festival of Summer Finding is observed annually on this date. The festival celebrates the light of the sun and the Goddess Sunnu becoming more powerful than darkness.

March 28

The birthday of the Goddess Kwan Yin is celebrated annually in Taiwan on this date.
