Lorain Day Camp was held at Camp Timberlane in Birmingham from July 27 through July 31. This year's theme was Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! And of course, we had lots of fun, despite the weather. Unfortunately, 2 swim days were cancelled, but were made up when the whole camp swam on Friday. On Wednesday night, the Juniors spent the night at camp. For lunch on Thursday, we had a whole camp cook-out with sloppy joes, s'mores, and watermelon. On Friday, we had a sing-a-long and awards ceremony. Then, it was time to say good-bye to all our new friends.
Brownie I , 4 girls entering 1st grade, earned the Girl Scout Ways Try-It badge. We made sit-upons, s'mores, participated in a flag ceremony, took many hikes, made gods eyes, tissue paper flowers, necklaces made out of Plaster of Paris and interesting rocks from the creek, leaf rubbings, and of course: Kapers! The girls learned how to clean latrines, pump water, and put out a campfire properly. They were amazed with all the bugs we saw on the trees, in the unit, and even more with the ones Mrs. T. brought to us. We also explored the creek. It only pulled in our 2 smallest girls, Kaitlyn and Allison, but they were ok, dried fast, and enjoyed every minute of it! And if you haven't figured it out by now, Jen and SueAnn were the assistant leaders.
Brownie II , led by Mrs. Wagner, expressed their creativity with face paint. Some girls were cats, tigers, the sky, and some just had cool designs. They also had fun making a big mess while making paper mache balloons. Brownie II also wove belts out of yarn.
Brownie III , led by Mrs. Shimo made clay beads, paper mache bracelets. They learned about animals and thier homes and food. They also laid out scraps of material to see if any animals would use it for a nest.
Junior IV and Junior V joined together with Mrs. Knapp to learn about weather. They searched the newspapers for weather forecasts, learned about the clouds and could tell us when it was going to rain, made a barometer, and a sun dial.
The Cadettes worked on a relationships badge and learned how to be a wonderful Jr. Staffer for next year. Thank you Mrs. T.
