The energy of the mineral kingdom is universal. However, you have to be willing to receive this energy and integrate it into your life, as needs arise. Note that each crystal has its own individual energy and "personality".
How did I become acquainted with crystal magic?
Well, I was going through a rough emotional time and a friend suggested I wear rose quartz for strength of heart. At first, I imagined the "maybe this is working" ... I always want to think the best when I am starting a new endeavor .. then I became convinced it "was" working, and so began my journey into the world of "rocks".
Where do you find crystals?
You can find them in mines - we have a famous one near here and while the mine itself is closed, the Sterling Hill Mining Museum is still open everyday. They have rock shows a few times each year. Where else can you find crystals?
You can find them in quarries, in the forests, in rock shops and near the sea shore. You can also find them in jewelry stores.
If you do find a rock/crystal that you are thinking of buying, try a test: stand in front of a group of crystals with your eyes closed; clear your mind and relax. Then, open your eyes and pick up the first crystal you look at. Sometimes, stones just speak to you - I have a pink/green tourmaline that was very pricey. I saw it at a show and just "had to have it."
I absolutely couldn't decide which stone/rock/crystal to start with on this journey and since I mentioned the tourmaline, why not start there?
Tourmaline energy relates to each of the chakras to help clear, maintain and stimulate each of the energy centers of the body. Why was I attracted to this particular stone??? Well, I waited until I got home and then looked in my reference book. For me personally, it was mainly attractive for its use in diminishing fear by promoting understanding. It has been used to stimulate balance between left/right sides of the brain. It helped me let go of victim thinking.
Currently, I use, clear quartz, rose quartz, hematite, sugilite, lapis, agate, alexandrite, amber, amethyst, amazonite, aventurine, carnelian, chrysocolla, citrine (excellent for self-esteem), jasper, larimar, obsidian, smokey quartz, sodalite, staurolite, turquoise and more..
Until we meet again, a wonderful reference book is "Love is in the Earth", a kaleidoscope of crystals by Melody.
Happy rock hunting!!!
