in a cabin in the country
snowy cold November night
Jenny sat in silence rocking
warming near her fire bright
happy, waiting for her baby
a little boy the doctor said
hand-made layette carefully crafted
lay upon his tiny bed
without warning Jenny felt him
pushing, coming way too soon;
in the cabin in the country
he was born in mother's room
one whole day he labored fiercely
colored blue and breathing fast
doctors watched him, whispered, waited
wondering if her child could last
Jenny knelt in fervent silence
begged her God to save her son
please my God, don't take my baby
he's my heart, my little one
still the angels came for Jared
came despite his mother's plea
only one dream for this baby
then the angels set him free
