I am 63 years old, but only on my birth certificate. Actually my heart tells me I'm twenty five, and "ALL" is possible! Mom age one! I was born in Montreal, Quebec the second daughter of parents who would soon separate. My mom's name was Eva, and my father's name was Eugene but I never knew him. I remember that my mom worked very hard as a seamstress, and that life was very difficult for her, my sister Micheline, and I. We were often sent to our maternal grandparents to stay, and convents, and foster care also became a part of my life. Madeleine, Mama, Micheline! When I was 11, my mother discovered passenger ship's. The name of her first ship was the S.S.Tadoussac! The ship sailed from Montreal to a place called Bagotville, which is down the St.Lawrence River from Montreal. Passengers would go aboard for a three day cruise. Many honeymooners took these trips. My mom began to work there as a "salad girl", but she soon became the head of that department. She would work on the ship during the summers months, and in the winter she would return to her regular work as a seamstress. Mother worked on this ship for a number of years, until she made another discovery. This time her big discovery were ships that carried cargo on the Great Lakes. These ships ran from early spring till late fall. My mom now became a "second cook". Her job was to help the chief cook prepare the meals. She also washed tons of dishes, and pots and pans. Her job also included peeling all the vegetables, and making light desserts. She was also required to mop the floors and put out the garbage, and she was responsible for cleaning the Captains, and Chief Engineer rooms. She worked hard, but she loved this work, because for the first time in her life she was finally earning a good salary. The best part for her was, that she was now fulfilling her dreams to travel. Life was getting easier and somewhat better! My mom had always dreamed of going to far of lands, and she read many books about those exotic places. Her first big travel adventure was her first trip to Mexico. This was soon followed by her many trips to Europe, and Turkey. My mom traveled well into her 80's! Her last trip was going to Russia with a group of senior citizens. This was to be her last big travel adventure. Most of my mom's life was spent flying solo! My mother was a very independent lady! I met my future husband when I was 13. He was a deck officer on the ship my mother worked on. I was married when I was 16. This was not a happy marriage. It lasted on and off, till his early death at age of 57. At the time of his death my husband had fulfilled his dream of becoming a captain. We shared many good moments together, but personal problems would always split us apart. Enough said...may he rest in peace!
