LUCIA - Saint Lucy's Day
Lucia is something that is only celebrated as a festival of light in Sweden and Finland. Every year on December 13, white-robed girls with candles in their hair and hands walk from door to door, singing special songs and sometimes reciting a poem. Sometimes she brings gingerbread cookies and saffron buns with her as a gift to the people she visits. Please follow my links and find out more about this fascinating and beautiful tradition!

Definitions

* Brännvin is Scandinavian strong liquor, with a very high alcohol content. It was home made.
* Tärna translates to maiden, but I have kept using the Swedish word because in Lucia circumstances, tärna has a slightly different meaning (though I am sure it used to be the same in the early days of modern Lucia...).

Wow! Thank you so much my netsisters! I am very honoured!
