The Lucia celebration has to some extent spread to the other Scandinavian countries. Swedish immigrants brought the tradition to the United States. Swedish clubs and organizations all over the United States choose their own Lucia bride. In Chicago nearly every Swedish organization choose a Lucia, and then one of them is chosen by lot to be Chicago's Lucia. She gets to wear a crown made by hand in Sweden. Other known places where Lucia is celebrated in the United States is Philadelphia (at the American Swedish Historical Museum), Rockford, Illinois (at the Erlander Home Museum), Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and in San Diego. Many celebrate Lucia as part of a general Christmas festivity.
