Lucia is dressed in a white robe and has a broad crimson sash tied around her waist (said to represent Saint Lucia's blood when murdered by the sword). In her hair she wears a wreath made of mountain cranberry (or lingonberry as it also is called), with tall lit candles in it. Actually, the base is usually of plastic or metal with candleholders, and the mountain cranberry twigs are wrapped around it. She holds the palms of her hands together, kind of like a Japanese greeting. She is followed by her tärnor. They are girls dressed in a white robe, with a strand of glittering tinsel around their waist and a strand of glittering tinsel tied to a circle. They each hold a lit candle in their hands. Sometimes, especially in more informal circumstances such as at a daycare center, there is also stjärngossar, or "star boys", and tomtenissar , "gnomes" in the luciatåg. Tärngossar are boys dressed in white robes and wearing a cone-shaped hat on their head, decorated with three golden stars. They carry a small staff in one hand with a golden star at the top. Tomtenissar wear a red outfit with a bonnet (looking like a sleeping bonnet) on their heads. The stjärngossar walk after the tärnor and the tomtenissar come last, in a group. Below is a drawing by Graphic Garden of the whole group.
